Carnival Birthday Theme

Lollipops and popcorn with flowers

I do get requests to create birthday parties and for the month of June, a Carnival theme for a 19 year old was requested. Since I didn't have any weddings to see to, it was just nice for me to plan and create a theme that was not childish but instead colourful and fun for the birthday girl.

I had the privilege of meeting with a very talented photographer, Carlos, who captured the details of the event effortlessly and needed no editing or touching up (to my naked eye and humble opinion). Beautiful contrasting and he managed to capture the essence of the party; which was essentially of Pink, Blue and Yellow.

Floral decor by Theme of Que Rafael who created beautiful arrangement and yet not too formal to add the fun element into the the decor. Since we were in the Carnival circus-y theme but without the animals (of course), coloured paper flowers were created weeks before hand to ensure that we have enough to add to the transparent canopy and the brilliant idea of my right-hand-man, Ajak, to hang the Cotton Candy  around the canopy sealed the look completely.

Although I was a bit skeptical about the menu of Burgers, Hotdogs, Potato Apple Salad and Corn on the Cob, I was reassured when some of the guests (particularly the boys) were ecstatic when they could create a double or triple decker burger of their own! Since they are young adults of 19 years of age, who would want heavy and not "fun" food like pasta or the usual pizza.

Dessert Bar was a sell-out! There were no left overs apart from a mere piece or two of Jelly Beans and M & M chocolates, but the rest were part of the party pack which was supplied the birthday girl for her friends to pack their own mixture of candies and chocolates. Chocolate Fountain was accompanied with fresh strawberries and bananas and the ever compulsory, Marshmellows.

A Surprise 70th Birthday Party

5 daughters - 2 residing overseas, 2 very busy working mums & 1 very busy architect, decided to have a surprise birthday party for their mother, who turned 70 years old on May 1st. Because of their busy schedule, we started planning this event in December 2009 and had to keep it under wraps from everyone initially, as we were afraid of 'leakage' of the party to their mother.

The 'story' Datin Linda created was to ask her mother to chaperon her to a formal dinner as her husband couldn't come along. PDP had to ensure that no signages were seen after 8pm, even at the allocated car park at the porch of Hilton Sentral was not allowed as the birthday girl is scheduled to arrive at about 8.15pm. The staff of Hilton Sentral accomodated us superbly in making this event a true surprise for the birthday girl. Coordination had to be precise, signages for the guests had to be taken off electrically and manually by 8pm. Even the Cocktail service had to be in the ballroom itself.

I positioned myself in the ballroom and placed my staff whom the birthday girl does not recognise opposite the elevator with a walkie-talkie to cue me when Datin & Auntie Kamariah exits the elevator and when they are in front of the ballroom entrance. Auntie was totally shocked when the door opened to see all her family and close friends and didn't budge from where she stood for a few minutes due to the surprise!

I'm so glad that the coordination was executed like clock work and that the family coorperated fully to make the event a successful one. Below are the details for the event.
